Drawing & Sketching Supplies

Hey guys! So, recently I went to the Urban Sketchers Symposium and, being the artist that I am, I had to make sure I had all the best sketching supplies with me. Let me tell you, I put together the ultimate set of tools for all you fellow sketching enthusiasts out there.

Sketching Supplies

First off, I made sure to bring along a good quality drawing pencil. It's important to have a pencil that has a smooth glide and doesn't smudge too much, and I found that the Staedtler Mars Lumograph fits the bill perfectly.

Next up, I had to have my trusty sketchbook. I'm a big fan of the Moleskine brand because the paper has a great weight and texture to it, and the binding is strong enough to withstand all the rough sketching and erasing I put it through.

Of course, no artist can go without a good set of markers. The Copic Sketch markers are my go-to for all my coloring needs because they have a huge range of colors and blend beautifully.

When I'm out on location, I like to keep things organized in a small pencil case. I found one that's slim enough to fit in my bag but still has enough compartments to hold all of my supplies.

But what about erasers? Believe it or not, there are a ton of options out there. My personal favorite is the Tombow Mono Zero because it has a precise tip for getting into those detailed areas.

And let's not forget about the importance of having a portable watercolor set. The Koi Watercolors Pocket Field Sketch Box has a variety of vibrant colors and even comes with its own waterbrush.

For all those little touch-ups on my sketches, I always make sure to have a white Posca pen on hand. It's perfect for highlights in drawings and gives a nice opaque finish.

Last but not least, I always bring along a comfortable stool to sit on. Trust me, you'll be thankful for something sturdy to take a load off while you're getting lost in your art.

How to Make the Most Out of Your Sketching Supplies

Now that you have all the best materials in your hands, what's the next step? Here are some tips on how to make the most out of your new sketching supplies:

1. Practice, practice, practice! The more you use your supplies, the more comfortable you'll become with them.

2. Experiment with different techniques. Try blending colors, varying your line weight, and exploring different textures.

3. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's important to remember that art is subjective and everyone has their own style.

4. Take inspiration from your surroundings. Whether you're in a bustling city or a quiet park, there's always something to draw.

5. Share your work with others. Join a local sketching group or post your art online to get feedback and encouragement from your peers.

6. Have fun with it! At the end of the day, art should be a source of joy and creativity, so enjoy the process and let your imagination run wild.

So there you have it, folks. The ultimate guide to sketching supplies and how to make the most out of them. Now go out there and get sketching!
